This is your chance to meet up with like-minded colleagues across Greater Manchester and the North West to tackle one of the hottest topics facing the public sector today:
As a nation we’re living longer, but not necessarily healthier lives. As a result, services are struggling to cope with rising healthcare costs. We want to reframe the discussion around health and active lifestyles and explore innovative and affordable solutions that will enable our older citizens to live independently for longer within their communities.
Partners in a number of local authority areas across the North West of England are coming together for a one-day event to collaborate, share data using the Data Mill North open data repository and look at new and innovative solutions to help address some of the problems faced by our citizens and communities.
This ‘Innovation Lab’ will be hosted by Stockport Council and will take place on Friday 12th May. Stockport Council will provide the web/app developers and analysts to work with you, the service providers, using data supplied by all the local authorities taking part. Some funding has been provided by the Local Government Association to progress the winning idea. Events with the same focus will also be run in Leeds and Newcastle; please get in touch if you would like further details.
So what’s involved?
In the morning you’ll be split into teams and paired with a developer or analyst to help you focus on creating a prototype or proposal using newly published data to help address this issue. In the afternoon you can continue working-up this idea or get involved in group work looking at some of the problems we face when publishing data and to share successes we’ve achieved so far.
Who should attend?
It would be great to have a range of people including those working in public health, adult social care, health, sport and leisure and third sector organisations working with older people. Anyone involved with strategy, finance and business intelligence in this area would also be very welcome.
If you’re interested in attending please get in touch as soon as possible – numbers are limited! If you’re interested in getting more involved and publishing some of your local authority data, we can provide support and also provide you with access to the open data website Data Mill North if you wish.
What should I bring?
Please come with your experiences and insight. Though not essential it would be a good idea to also bring your laptop so you can help progress and research any ideas you wish to develop on the day. Stockport MBC will provide food and refreshments and the developers to help bring the ideas to life.
If you have any questions, just ask. I look forward to hearing from you.
