An Introduction to the Programme

iStandUK is part of the wider iNetwork family and operates as a distinct programme with its own governance arrangements and dedicated focus on information standards.

While closely connected to iNetwork's mission of supporting innovation, collaboration and improvement across the public sector, iStandUK concentrates specifically on the development and adoption of standards that enable organisations to share information more effectively and deliver joined-up services.

Our mission is to promote and develop data standards that enable more efficient, transparent and transformative local public services across the UK.

iStandUK also acts as the steward for several nationally significant data standards initiatives. This includes the Scalable Approach to Vulnerability via Interoperability (SAVVI) project, which supports local authorities and partners to identify and assist vulnerable individuals and households through improved data sharing. As well as Open Referral UK (ORUK), the national standard for publishing and sharing information about community services.

Through stewardship of these standards, iStandUK plays a leading role in driving consistency, interoperability and innovation across public services.

Priorities and Objectives for 2026-27

Secure Data Sharing: iStandUK will support data sharing scenarios such as a 'single view' of vulnerable people and households. This will include standards for data, APIs, Information Governance, and trusted networks, as well as working with key data sources to make data available for re-use.

Digital Capability: iStandUK will work with partners and Departments to define a set of digital capabilities such as Digital Identity. Standards for these Capabilities will create choice and innovation for digital products and services.

Standards Incubation Service: iStandUK will support information standards through their full lifecycle, from initial concept and assurance through to adoption, sustainability and long-term governance. This will include assessing new standards opportunities, building communities of practice, promoting adoption, measuring impact and providing stewardship for standards such as SAVVI and Open Referral UK (ORUK), ensuring they continue to deliver value across the public sector.

Training Academy: iStandUK will establish a national training and accreditation service to support the adoption of key information standards. Through curriculum design, training programmes and professional accreditation, the Academy will build the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to implement standards effectively and consistently across the public sector.

The iStandUK Executive Board

The iStandUK Executive Board is made up of senior representatives from local government, central government and national partner organisations, reflecting the programme's national role in developing and promoting information standards.

Unlike the iNetwork Board, which is comprised of member organisations, the iStandUK Executive Board draws on expertise from across the wider public sector to provide strategic direction and oversight. The board also acts as a leadership forum for collaboration and innovation in data standards and interoperability. The members of the iStandUK Executive Board are...
