The General Data Protection Regulation is due to come into force across EU on 25 May 2018. However with the result of the EU Referendum and the resulting BREXIT, there is some uncertainty. Will GDPR be implemented prior to BREXIT negotiation? Or will BREXIT happen before 25 May 2018? These timescales are not clear and there has been much discussion as to the implications of this for local authorities.
It is our understanding that NHS England has taken the view that the safest course of action is to prepare for full GDPR implementation in May 2018. The position for local authorities is not so clear. We have raised this issue with the Local Government Association and how that they will be able to take this forward. In the meantime, we are keen to understand what local authorities within our region are planning to do.
Will you be making plans to implement GDPR or not?
If yes, how have you managed to secure resources with this uncertainty? If not, how will you manage / record the risk?
