To support our members in the ever changing world of AI, iNetwork delivered an engaging online event discussing the “Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in AI Transformation Projects” on Thursday 30th January. It proved to be a highly successful event with over 40 attendees. Presentations were delivered from our esteemed speakers: Claire Lesko, the Programme Head at AI & Digital at the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Jane Hancer, Programme Director at CC2i and Abigail Everett, Head of Client Services at Policy in Practice.

Claire Lesko began the session by delivering a presentation on the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) and how this is used though highlighting some AI case studies. Claire’s session concluded by talking about the Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) 10 step guide: How to consider equality in policy making: A 10-step guide for public bodies in England | EHRC

The second presentation was delivered by Jane Hancer who discussed the CC2i project: AI4ASC. This presentation outlined the collaboration, key project stages and challenges. We also got the chance to meet with Annie. Annie is a digital assistant which is multi-lingual and allows for a conversational approach with users.

Finally Abigail Everett highlighted how Policy in Practice is using data and technology to support residents. She talked about the reasons why so much support (pension credits, free school meals) are left unclaimed by residents, this may be due to awareness, stigma or complexities in claiming, and how data can be used to support these residents to claim what they are entitled to.

This is one session as part of our ongoing commitment to support our members with AI transformation and innovation in the public sector.
